New Things

I ate a frog leg today.  I was eating dinner at a Chinese buffet with my dad, Pastor Pepe and his family, and some missionaries to Argentina, and they had a big pan of fried frog legs nestled in next to the sesame chicken and crab cheese, so I decided to try one.  Dad and Pastor Pepe assured me that frog legs taste like chicken.  They don’t.  They taste like frogs.  They’re also kind of chewy.

Tim vs. the Internet

Round One: I came home from Lake Ann Camp ready and eager to see my family and my pets and my house and my books and all of the other awesome things that are there, but there was one decidedly less-than-awesome thing I was not excited to see at all: our dial-up Internet.  We have a begrudgingly love/hate relationship, the dial-up and I.  After all, it’s the only way for me to keep in touch with my friends and, of course, to keep my blog updated while I’m at home, so I’m glad we have it, but it’s so interminably slow that it’s almost not worth the effort.  You have to log in, wait three minutes for it to make a connection, type in the address of the site you want to check, wait five minutes for it to load, click something, wait five minutes, click, wait, rinse, repeat.  Despite this frustration, I can usually get it to do what I say, so the score so far stands at Tim: 1, Internet: 0

Summer in Review Part 4: Wal-Mart Runs and Other Adventures

How to sum up the pure brilliance that was Summer 2011?  What was it that made every day better than the last?  Sure, the work was fun, and Chefy is the best boss a guy could ask for, but there was more to it than that.  Yes, hearing Ken Rudolph’s stellar preaching five days a week was wonderful, and so were all of the fun weekend trips, but those aren’t the memories that will stick with me longest.  No, the reason that I loved this summer so much, the reason that there will never be another summer like it, is because of all of the amazing friends who shared it with me and helped shape it into the adventure that it was – and believe me, it was an adventure.

The Quotable Kora P.

So today, I learned that my friend and co-worker Kora says hilarious things with alarming consistency, so I took the liberty of recording a few of her quotes to post here (with her permission, of course).  Ladies and gentlemen, The Quotable Kora P.!

“What’s a Zombie apocalypse?”
(Me): “It’s when zombies take over the world.”
“I hate it when that happens.”

“I think I just choked on my life.”

“I’m more 90’s than a longboard!”

“You just got graped!”

“If I point my pinkie out like this, does it cancel out my elbows?

“I could make a comment about that, but I’m afraid you’ll quote me.”

Oddly enough, she didn’t say anything else particularly quotable after that.  I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

Candid Car Ride or This Is What My Life is Like Every Day

Disclaimer: This post contains the word “transvestite”, but the individual in question is a jug of water named Drew Waters.  There was no actual dating involved.  Also, Adam Beckmeyer was driving.  I thought I should specify that in case he crashes and we all die so you know who to blame.

So I’ve Been Sinking…

It’s Saturday night and I’m pretty much sleep deprived, so I find everything way funnier than I should.  Even so, I’m pretty sure that if I was fully lucid I would still laugh at these three videos.

Song of the Week: “Oh Canada”

Everybody kept telling me that there was some kind of major holiday a few days ago, so I Googled it and found out that it was Canada Day this past Friday.  I may not be Canadian, but some of my favorite TV shows were filmed/produced/created in Canada, and they have cool accents, so I thought I’d extend a friendly happy birthday to our northern neighbors by featuring their national anthem as the song of the week.  Still not sure why all of my American friends were so psyched up about the whole thing, but whatever.  Keep being awesome, Canada!
