Song of the Week: “Beautiful Things” by Gungor

Today was an all-music session in chapel, which never fails to make my day, and to make things even better we sang some of my favorite worship songs of all time, like “Beautiful” by Phil Wickham and “Everything” by Tim Hughes.  We also sang a song, however, that I’d never heard before, and it was easily my favorite song of the service.  This song, “Beautiful Things” by Gungor, is nearly perfect on every level.  The music is gentle, stirring, and wonderfully expressive, the lyrics are marvelously simple and yet profoundly eloquent, and the whole piece practically  shines with hope, confidence, and an utter reliance on the God who makes order out of chaos, gardens out of ashes, and beautiful things out of the dust.

Lyrics:

All this pain
I wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I wonder if my life could really change at all
All this earth
Could all that is lost ever be found
Could a garden come up from this ground at all

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You make me new, You are making me new
You make me new, You are making me new
