Song of the Week: “Awake My Soul” by Mumford and Sons

This week’s song is by the newly popular band Mumford and Sons.  Their gentle, lilting style is a pleasure to hear, and they boast some of the most thoughtful, spiritual lyrics I’ve ever heard from a secular band.  Enjoy this song, “Awake My Soul”, and be sure to check out more of their music if you like it.  (Disclaimer: While most of their music is clean, “Little Lion Man” includes a little bit of very strong language.  It’s still a great song, but you might want to try to find a radio edit.)

The lyrics are posted below if you want to read them, and if you have any suggestions for future songs of the week let me know in the comments.  This week’s song was suggested by Adam Swensen.

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don’t know
This weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we’ll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I’ll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free
Har har, har har, har har, har har

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul, awake my soul
Awake my soul
You were made to meet your maker
Awake my soul, awake my soul
Awake my soul
You were made to meet your maker
You were made to meet your maker
