Song of the Week – “Where’s Hiccup?” and “Coming Back Around” from the How to Train Your Dragon Soundtrack by John Powell

If you’ve known me for very long, you know that I love movie soundtracks, and if you haven’t heard me say it by now let me tell you all again: the How to Train Your Dragon Soundtrack by masterful composer John Powell is one of the best that there is.  In honor of this exquisite album’s nomination for a Best Soundtrack Oscar, today’s song of the week is a double feature from the film.  These two tracks make up the background music during the last five or six minutes of the movie, and between the two of them they make a wonderful sample of all that is great about this soundtrack.  The mood glides effortlessly between sad and peaceful and joyous and triumphant, and all of the movie’s great musical themes make an appearance at some point.  If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it, and whether or not you’ve heard the soundtrack, I urge you to go listen to these tracks (in order) right away.  You won’t regret it.

Here’s part one: “Where’s Hiccup?”

Here’s part two: “Coming Back Around”

And don’t forget to let me know what your favorite songs are in the comments below.  Have a great Wednesday, everyone.
